BTCL Achievements at a glance

1	Installation of new digital telephone exchanges and expansion of existing exchanges.	(1) Within Dhaka Telecom area: a)  Baridhara – 10,000 lines h)   Japan Garden City- 800 lines b)  Basundhara Housing- 2,000 lines i)   Baitul Aman Housing- 800 lines c)   Uttara Exchange- 2,000 lines j)   Mid-Dhanmondi- 1,056 lines d)   Ramna Exchange- 5,000 lines k)   Cantonment- 1,536 lines e)   Nilkhet Exchange- 5,000 lines l)   Uttara (ONU)- 1,000 lines f)    Goran/ Banasree- 3,000 lines m)  Mirpur- 1,500 lines g)    Shere Bangla Nagar - 4,000 lines (2) Other area: Expansion plan of 1, 44,500 lines including Dhaka city are in progress. 2	Redundancy of Optical Fiber Link	Redundant backhaul for submarine cable (Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar) has been established using PGCB (Power Grid Company Bangladesh) overhead line.
3	Digital Exchanges in Hill Tract Upazillas.	Installation of new Digital Telephone Exchanges at Chittagong Hill Tract Upazillas will be completed by June, 2011.
4	Optical Fiber extension to all Union Parishads	108 UPs will be connected through optical fiber in first phase using BTCL’s own fund (estimated cost-Tk. 60 Crore )
5	New Red Exchange	New 3,000 line Red telephone exchange has been installed at honorable Prime Minister’s Office
6	Broadband Internet	BTCL has introduced ADSL broadband internet (Brand name-BCube) with capacity of 44,500 in several cities.
7	Video Conferencing system	Optical Fiber network has been established & purchase of video conferencing equipment is under process for PM office, Cabinet Division, offices of Divisional Commissioners and District Commissioners etc.
8	Bill Printing System	BTCL has introduced.own Bill printing system
9	Projects funded by BTCL own fund	a) ILDTS Policy-2007 implementation (estimated cost: Tk 180 crore) Status: Implementation going on. b)     Replacement of old Digital telephone system in Dhaka city (1,71,000 line) (estimated cost: Tk 197 crore) to introduce triple play (Voice, Data, Video ) services on telephone line. Status: Implementation going on.
10	Projects funded by Government of Bangladesh( GoB) fund	a) Info-bahan Project (estimated cost: Tk 299 crore) for nationwide expansion of internet through optical fiber network and for services like e-Commerce, e-Governance etc. Status: Project completion by June,2011. b) Wireless Broadband Network for Digital Bangladesh Project (Wimax) (estimated cost: Tk 552 crore). Status: DPP sent to Planning Commission. c)    Installation of NGN based telecommunication network (estimated cost: Tk. 1,726 crore). Status: DPP sent to Planning Commission. d) Telecommunication Network Development Project (estimated cost: Tk 623 crore).Status: Implementation going on. e) Installation of Digital Telephone Exchanges at Upazilla & Growth Centers; Status: Project completed on June,2011. f) Optical Fiber Cable Network Development in 1000 Union Parishad (estimated cost Tk. 760 Crore); Status: DPP sent to Planning Commission.
	Free telephone connections, reduction in telephone call charge and Internet rate	BTCL offered free telephone connections to Upazilla and District area where facilities (number and cable) are available. Flat rate of 30 paisa/minute has been introduced for BTCL to BTCL telephone throughout the country & call rate from BTCL to other operators has been made 65 paisa/min. ADSL( Broadband Internet) charge has been reduced (128 Kbps speed at only Tk. 300 per month ). DDN rate has also been revised.
